OUR HOME AND FAMILY
Myself, Allen and our daughter Allirah live on a 30 acre property at Wilton, the tip of the Southern Highlands of NSW.
Allen had a cross Samoyed as a child and I grew up with a little cross Silky. They were both amazing dogs. My uncle bred German Shepherds and I was always in awe of his ribbons on his wall so when it came to choosing a dog, I wanted a Shepherd and Allen wanted a Samoyed. But first came Princess Tiffany our Maltese. I could not live without a lap dog. I now know that Samoyeds consider themselves lapdogs too! A few months later I was visiting with a girlfriend and we were looking through the trading post and what should we see? An ad for Samoyed Puppies. We thought we would "just go and look". Well my friend lent me the money to buy Allen his Samoyed and we joke when we look around now that it is all HER fault. I never did get my Shepherd and don’t want one now. I had no idea at the time that there was such a thing as a Canine Council or Samoyed Club. You live and learn. |
That beautiful Samoyed was my precious Akhen.
It has been said that he "wasn't a very good representative of the breed". Well I am here to tell you that you couldn't have asked for a better dog to represent the Samoyed Breed. He wasn't the best built dog I will grant you that but he had the BEST temperament. He was so smart and loving and gentle.
I remember Allen and I used to go off to dog training on a Sunday morning. Me with little Tiff and Allen with Akhen. Well it didn't take long for that to change. Akhen was a natural and people used to tell Allen that he was good enough to compete. Well me with my competitive nature decided that I liked the idea of competition so we swapped dogs. Poor Allen used to go to class with little Tiff and didn't the little old ladies just love that. They used to dote on Allen and Tiff but poor Al soon got sick of taking Tiff to class as she wasn't the brightest. (Actually she was too bright and just looked up as if to say "I'm not doing that").
After a while Akhen and I went to see Steve Austin to polish up our obedience ready for the ring. And the rest really is history. I ended up working with Steve and Hanrob for over 10 years. Buying Akhen sent our life in a different direction.
Allen and I ended up in a performing dog team. Dynamite Dogs did shows all over the place. Apart from that Akhen and Tiff also did TV shows, commercials, still shoots, corporate functions, and lots of charity work. It was after much education that we contacted Lindy and Ian Roberts of Arcticlight (now Joanne McDougall’s kennel name) and bought Patsy (Ch Arcticlight Take A Bow). She also joined Dynamite Dogs. She introduced us to the world of showing and we will always be forever grateful to Lindy and Ian for providing such a sound starting point for Anaky.
We have had many helpers along the way and appreciate everyone that shares our journey.
Beautiful Akhen went to heaven (as Allirah says) in July 2005. Just short of his 13th birthday. We all miss him, especially me. He was my special boy. Tiff joined him in February 2006 just short of her 14th birthday. I couldn’t bear the house without a Maltese. She was such an integral part of our family. Luckily for me Tricia and Peter Cutler have blessed us with Merimalt Princespenelope. If you think Samoyeds can be wicked you need to meet Penelope! She is rather demanding and we love her! Penelope has gone on to produce some top winning Malts as well. Betty (Penelope’s daughter) has also joined the Anaky family and together they rule the roost.
Another most beautiful boy Multi BISS Aust Gr Ch Anaky Party Animal "Franklin" was laid to rest in September 2012. Words cannot describe this dog or what he meant to myself, Allen and Allirah. For anyone who met him you will know what I am talking about. He had the presence of a king. A very wise one whose eyes just looked straight into your heart and soul. I miss him so much already. I don't know what I am going to do without him. There will never be another like him. We were so blessed to have shared our lives with such a spirit.
We also share our lives with Allirah’s horses. Part Welsh Australian Riding Pony Carisma Park Nicholas has sadly journeyed over the rainbow bridge. He has taught her so much since he came to live with us in May 2011. Attending her first Royals at Canberra and Sydney in 2012 and placing at both! Nicholas will always be a missed part of our family. He was so spoiled, he had more clothes than me!
I am so glad that our life has taken a road involving all that we love. We have some true "best friends" because of it.
